The Gromov-Witten theory of Deligne-Mumford stacks is a recent development, and hardly any computations have been done beyond 3-point genus 0 invariants. This paper provides explicit recursions which, together with some invariants computed by hand, determine all genus 0 invariants of the stack PD,2 . Here D is a smooth plane curve and PD,2 is locally isomorphic to the stack quotient [U/(Z/(2))], where U → V ⊂ P2 is a double cover branched along D ∩ V . The introduction discusses an enumerative application of these invariants.

We propose a generalization of Gysin maps for DM-type morphisms of stacks F → G that admit a perfect relative obstruction theory E F/G. We prove functoriality properties of the generalized Gysin maps. As applications, we analyze Gromov-Witten invariants of blow-ups and we give a short proof of Costello’s push-forward formula.

Using obstruction bundles, composition law and localization formula, we compute certain 3-point genus-0 Gromov-Witten invariants of the Hilbert scheme of 3-points on the complex projective plane. Our results partially verify Ruan’s conjecture about quantum corrections for this Hilbert scheme.
